Description |
Black lacquered wood and hand blown dome glass frame inlaid with silver around the around the glass. Inside the frame is hair worked in to artistic and floriate design. Written inside the frame in French "Souvenir de notre affectueuse. Georges. 29 Janvier 1903". On the back of the frame is printed "40 MEDAILLES D'HONNEUR.... MON CHARLEUX BTE. JEAUDOUNEN SR. Bijoutier F. Dessinatuer. EN CHEVEUX. Passage du' Havre 39 41 et 43 PARIS". Victorian framed Hair Art for mourning was a way to remember their deceased loved ones. Hair from the deceased was made into art, mainly floral designs. This became a popular way of commemorating a loved one's passing during the Victorian period up to the early 20th century. This framed hair art was made in Paris, France in 1903 in fond remembrance of Georges who may have passed on January 29, 1903. |
