Description |
This spindle whorl is a a perforated circular shaped stone, excavated by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust from a Taino midden. TaÌno spindle whorls were used for spinning cotton to make cloth, they were usually undecorated and made from rounded potsherds, baked clay, stone, bone or shells. The spindle was used in pairs and held between the thumb and one of the fingers of the left hand. The spinning and twisting motion produced cotton thread, which was then woven into cloth. |
