Description |
Print depicts in the foreground lush foliage and a river. Beside the river a man is sitting with his donkey at his side, he is a talking to a woman who appears to be holding a rake. On the left of the print, there is a man transporting sugar cane on his back towards a woman who is carrying a basket on the top of her head with her child at her side. In the background there is a village, with a farmer travelling with his cows, pulling along a carriage Printed below image on the left side, "Drawn on the spot & painted by George Robertson". In the centre below the title "Dedicated to William Beckford Esq. of Somerley in Suffolk. By his most Obliged Servant. Published March 25th 1778 by John Boydell. Engraved in Cheapside London. John Boydell". On the right, "Engraved by Thomas Vivares". A coat of arm is visible in the centre below the image. |
