Description |
The shrimp pot was a basket that was set in the sea by local fishermen with bread coconut and other morsels of food to entrap shrimp. This conical shaped basket weaved from strips of wild cane, has a hollow interior and small opening that allows shrimp and other sea creatures to swim in and get trapped inside. These types of pots or baskets are found in cultures all over the world for thousands of years and this tradition was possibly brought to Jamaica by the Taíno and the enslaved Africans. |
