Description |
Black oval shaped frame made of lacquered wood and domed glass. Metal is inlaid around the inner and outer side of the frame. Inside the frame is hair shaped in a floriate design. On the back of the frame is printed "TRABAJO POR JOSEFINA A. DE ARMENTA. Barranquilla, Septiembre 188?". Framed Hair Art for mourning was a way for relatives to remember their deceased loved ones. Hair from the deceased was made into art mainly floral designs. This became a popular way of commemorating a loved one's passing during the Victorian period up to the early 20th century. This Victorian Mourning Hair Art was possibly made for Josefina A. De Armenta in the city of Barranquilla in Colombia. |
