Description |
The Taino loved to adorn their bodies with ornaments which were made from a variety of materials: stone, shell, bones, feather, silver, gold and teeth. They valued stone beads very highly. They were made from jadeite, calcite, marble and chalcedony. Among the Tainos stone beads were gifts of honour by the caciques and strings of beads were used as exchange of gifts. Pendants like these were used as signs of rank among Taino nobility. |
