Description |
Stoneware bottle with paper label on body reading "Sangster's Old Jamaican Liqueur. The magic of the Island. Captured in one of the World's Great Liqueurs. London 1976". The words "Sangster's Old Jamaican Liqueur" is also embossed on body of bottle. Paper label on neck reads "Blue Mountain Coffee 150 ml". Bottle is coloured blue with blue speckles. Narrow mouth and a looped handle. Cylindrical in shape. Blue band around base. What appears to be a seal is embossed in a circle on neck. Blue band around base. The paper label depicts a figure leading a donkey, while another one with basket on back walks ahead. On base is inscribed "Genuine Stoneware Liqueur Bottle". The label features Joseph Kidd's Mountain Views, circa 1800s. On both of these labels the black labourers and coffee farmers were featured only as part of the general landscape of plantation society. Sangster’s Liqueur was invented by Dr. Ian Sangster, a Scotsman, who arrived in Jamaica in 1967 with a contract to lecture at the University of the West Indies, and quickly fell in love with the beauty and mystique of the island. Located high up in the Blue Mountains, Sangster's was created in 1974. |
