Description |
Two wooden candlesticks and a wooden case. Case cover is made from a variety of wood found in Trinidad & Tobago. Both candlesticks are cylindrical shaped with an oval shaped section inbetween. The candlesticks sit on wooden base and are decorated with incised flower buds and petals. Funnel shape metal piece at top which has a small inset with flat rim to hold candles. Wooden carvings of Trinidad and Tobago's two National birds stands on opposite sides of the candlesticks, the Scarlet Ibis (Eudocimus ruber), locally known as "flamingo," and the Cocrico (Ortalis ruficauda), also known as the "Chachalaca," A metal plaque attached to each base reads "These candlesticks were presented to the Hon. Hugh Lawson Shearer Prime Minister of Jamaica on the official visit to Trinidad and Tobago August 23-25, 1968. |
